HOW-TO: Linking Telegram & Discourse notifications

Hey everyone!
The @infra team has enabled a new functionality here on Discourse to help you be more connected. Since most of us at Open Labs use Telegram we’ve enabled a bot which will message you every notifications that you get on Discourse :slightly_smiling_face:
Here’s a full tutorial

Setting it up

  1. Open a chat with @openlabs_forum_bot on Telegram
  2. Click Start
  3. You will get a message like this: ‘To get notifications for Open Labs Forum, enter the ‘Chat ID’ 000000000 in your user preferences’. Copy that code.
  4. Go to user settings
  5. Go to section ‘Profile’
  6. Scroll down to the bottom
  7. Enter the code you copied earlier into Telegram Notifications.
  8. Click ‘Save Changes’
  9. Enjoy :balloon:

Using it
Here’s what it looks like when someone interacted with you on Discourse

  • You can click like to like that post
  • Click reply on that message. The content that you type in telegram when you reply to a notification will get posted on Discourse.

Disabling the bot

  1. Go to user settings
  2. Go to section ‘Profile’
  3. Scroll down to the bottom
  4. Remove the code from Telegram Notifications.
  5. Click ‘Save Changes’
  6. Delete the chat in Telegram.

@kominoshja do we have this on the Wiki? Could we document it there?
